In 1960, the Japan Self Defence Force (in Japanese, “Koku Jietai”) decided too, to deploy the Lockheed Starfighter as its standard interceptor. The first three aircraft, still manufactured at Lockheed, were followed up by 178 F-104Js produced under license by Mitsubishi in 1967. This version in principle conforms to the German F-104G, as does 56-8673, the original of the Herpa model
